I have several questions regarding a redhat 9.0 installation which I am about to attempt. I have searched the forum and redhat.com support for the answers but I've come up short.
My computer will have 4 GB of physical memory. I was told that I need to recompile the kernel for highmem to manage this. There is a link to documentation on redhat.com explaining how to recompile the kernel but the link is broken. Can someone explain how to do this? I have access to a seperate computer that has redhat 7.3 installed if that helps with the recompiling process.
Documentation tells me that ext3 is the recommended file system. LVM is also mentioned which also sounds appealing. What are the ups and downs of the two file systems? Which should be applied to the /boot partition and which should be applied to the /root partition? Is there documentation of the read/write speeds of ext3 and LVM?
Is it possible to read an NTFS partition with Samba or other software? I have an entire network that is NTFS which I'd like to be able to interact with.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
