I am a veteran Linux user (experience: 1 (one) day of reading docs and one (1) day of installation and usage). Bow before me. But even experts run into problems on occasion. I tried to install Mandrake. Everything is fine (besides the fact that it broke the partition I made for it into several parts, and I installed it to the one closest to the end of the disk, because it was the largest. I'll use Windows as my primary system, so that's just an annoyance.)

The real problem is the mouse. I tried everything that was offered, and didn't find any that worked.

This is a PS/2 Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse.

How do I, without using the mouse, fix the mouse?

I have had good luck using the microsoft wheel mouse driver. This is on redhat but I think I have done the same on mandrake.

I tried microsoft wheel.

BTW, it's USB, not PS/2

I tried to find a driver, but no luck. You?

what does the input section for your mouse look like in your /etc/X11/XF86Config ?

the correct driver for a wheelmouse is IMPS/2

btw, what distro are you running?

You know... I managed to get into Mozilla and found out that the Web doesn't work. So I killed Mandrake. Gonna try red hat.

Short patience.

I installed Rh. And right off the bat... Oh joy! Root password is not recognized.

Woo!

(I wanted to ADJUST TIME. Bah.)

Is my only escape a reinstall (grrr), or somthing easier?
