This is sort of a repost from another thread, but it's a different topic.
I seem to be having trouble getting the Mandrake 7.2 installer to recognize my hard drive. It's running through a Promise Ultra100 IDE controller on an ASUS A7V mobo. Is there a workaround for this, or do I just need to disable the Promise? (I like the 100MHz vice 66MHz). Thanks.

Thanks for the pointer -
I followed the directions and the loader found my hard drive at hde (hda and hdb still say no response). The loader then halts at "Partition check: hde:" and does nothing more.
I noticed that the IRQs that showed up there for ide1 and ide2 were not the same as they are in Win98. I don't know if this is an issue or not, but having my drive as hde seems strange.
BTW, I've got a 30GB hd in four partitions (all FAT32), attempting to install to the fourth one. I was planning on doing all the partition stuff within the install program. Do I have to take care of it beforehand?
Thanks yet again. :D
Wish I could offer more help, but it is beyond my scope. Sorry.

Hiya! I had the same problem with my ultra ATA 100. Used the help at the above ref. url and it was pretty much right on the money.
I did not get the option to configure the bootloader, so I had to edit my boot from grub to get Linux to load, then went in and edited my grub settings... no problem now.
You might want to set ide2=noautotune ide0=noautotune
This helped me. Then you can go in and config the speed inside linux (I have not done this part yet, but it did get me up and running!!)
I figure, if I can do this, ANYONE can! This is my very first attempt at Linux.
