I have a Epson 785epx USB printer. I cannot get this thing to work at all, I am running RH 7.2, KDE 2.2, kernel 2.4.7-10. I have USB enabled. I have a PCI USB 2.0 card made by Opti.inc which is found on startup. I had my Olympus digital camera hooked up to the card ant it was found, I was able to d/l pictures off the camera with no problem.
usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs
usb.c: registered new driver hub
PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 00:0d.0
PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with 00:09.0
usb-ohci.c: USB OHCI at membase 0xd48a3000, IRQ 11

usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1
hub.c: USB hub found
hub.c: 2 ports detected
usb-ohci.c: v5.2:USB OHCI Host Controller Driver

I have USB modules installed
usb-ohci 18608 0 (unused)
usbcore 51808 1 [printer usb-ohci]

When I type in dmesg it finds the printer
printer.c: v0.8:USB Printer Device Class driver
hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1, assigned device number 2
hub.c: USB hub found
hub.c: 2 ports detected
hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1/1, assigned device number 3
printer.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 3 if 0 alt 0
hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1/2, assigned device number 4
usb.c: USB device 4 (vend/prod 0x4b8/0x602) is not claimed by any active driver.

I tried to configure the printer through printerconf. I had it scan devices and it found the printer at /dev/usb/lp0. I used epson photo driver and get ?there was an error printing test page " when I try to print a test page. Same error when using text only driver.I also tried using apsfilter using the gimp-print driver for the 785epx. I get the following
Printer escp2-785 is not a known model
****Unable to open initial device, quitting
real 0w0,547
user 0w0,100s
sys 0w0,010s

What am I doing wrong? Is this prnter not at all compatible? Any help is appricatied

Thanks in advance
Bill

If that is the same as the stylus photo 785, look at this link.
Epson StylusPhoto 785 (http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Epson-Stylus_Photo_785)

Do you have a printing server installed like "cups"? If your print server is not working the printer will sit there and act as if it's totally dead.
