Can someone please point me in the direction of a good WYSIWYG html webeditor for linux. I've tried and tried searching for one, but I cant find anything. At work I do alot of work on front page and basically what I want is something comprable that I can use on my home Debian system without having to boot in to windows.
I tried to get Dreamweaver running under wine but that dosent work, I tried downloading IBM homepage builder for linux and that didnt work out because it dosent have deb packages, and even after I used Alien to convert them and install nothing happens on launching the program.
Mozilla composer is just slightly lacking, if that could edit multiple frames at ones then it would be fine, but it dosent.
Surly somewhere amongst the hundreds of window managers, thousands of text editors there must be one decent WYSIWYG HTML editor with frames support! Id pay good money for one if it ment I could get work done without booting to windows everytime.
Please dont suggest Quanta and Bluefish, I have better things to do then write html code by hand even though I'm fully capable of doing it.
If anyone has any ideas at all please let me know, even if it's a windows program that works well with wine, that would do as long as it does work well. I dont mind if its propriaty or costly if it does what I want I would pay for it.

i don't believe there is a WYSIWYG html editor. Best do a forum search as this has been asked countless times.
my personal recommendation is to actually learn how to hand code in HTML is is really not that hard and ultimately you will have more control over the look and feel of your page. that and you can also hopefully make pages that conform to w3c html standard so that anyone can view your work.
the w3c homepage is an excellent resource and has many links to many more reference and has an online validator to check your work afterwards.

Open Office offers a really great Wysiwyg html editor. Its part of their suite. Try that out.

I'm pulling at straws here, but I thought there was something called bluefish?
Sure enough, a freshmeat search reveals bluefish, here's the link:

I know nothing about this, it might not even be WYSIWIG

Bluefish is a great HTML editor, but isn't WYSIWYG, I'm afraid.
The only 2 I know have already been mentioned - Mozilla Composer and OpenOffice.org

IBM has one called WebSphere, i think that's what it's called. It's not free, but they have a 30 day demo and it's about $80 for the registered version.
There is another one that will be available soon, but I can't remember who is putting it out :(
I know it's one of the big players like HP or Sun, but can't remember the details or whos making it...

frames? WYSIWYG? Well, doesn't seem like such a big deal. Good sites stay away from frames, it's just inneffective and error-prone for large sites. I'm not saying anything bad about yours. But, if you can code in HTML, just use an editor like xemacs and test it out on apache.
save >> focus on web broser >> F5
not too hard. and when you get into scripting, you'll be used to this environment.
so you can do that, or get away from frames and stick with your WYSIWYG, work with an editor with or without frames, or do nothing.
or maybe OO works, heh.
I dont think much searches will help you out. You do have other solutions though.
Wow, I remember when I used front page. "it makes scroll bars for me? wow!"

I found this program a while ago, got it installed and played for a bit in windows, but haven't had it up on my linux distro yet (mostly because I forgot I ever found it a few months ago).
Amaya (http://www.w3.org/Amaya/Amaya.html)
It's a WYSIWYG editor put out and supported by the W3C. I haven't played with it and it looks like the interface is a bit different than some of the other ones out there, but it might be worth a try.
In fact, if there is anyone out there with some experience with it, give us your thoughts, I'm interested also (hence I'm going to go try and install it now...)

I've used Amaya in Windows, not tried it in Linux.
It's ok I reckon. I've been spoiled by DW MX at work tho.
:D
I found Amaya to be a bit awkward at times, but it's been a while since I've used it too.
Thing I don't like about Composer is that it doesn't do XHTML very well.
And I've never been able to find a WSYWIG in OO? I've tried OOWeb but it always comes up as code???

I think "opencms" includes a WYSIWYG app. It's free.
